The deepest oil and gas exploration vertical well in Asia was successfully drilled in Sichuan Basin.

The reporter learned from PetroChina Southwest Oil and Gas Field Company on the 13th that the company's Pengshen 6 well in Penglai gas area of Sichuan Basin was successfully drilled and successfully cemented, with the deepest depth reaching 9026 meters, setting a new record for the deepest vertical well in Asia. 

According to reports, well Pengshen 6, located in Yanting County, Mianyang City, Sichuan Province, is a key pre-exploration well for exploring the Dengying formation in Penglai gas area. the purpose of drilling is to explore the reservoir development and gas-bearing properties of the Dengying formation at a depth of 8000 meters. The well was drilled by the 90025 team of PetroChina Chuanqing drilling Company and began drilling on July 5, 2021. The original designed well depth is 7990 meters, in order to further explore the oil and gas-bearing properties of the deep strata of the Dengying formation. 

Finally, the drilling was deepened to a depth of 9026 meters. 

The geological conditions of well Pengshen 6 are complex, facing challenges such as ultra-deep (> 9000 m), ultra-high temperature (> 200 ℃), ultra-high pressure (> 150 MPA) and high sulfur content (more than 30 g / m3).
