1.04 million tons! Shenghong Petrochemical’s acrylonitrile production capacity ranks first in the world

On December 1, in Lianyungang, Jiangsu Province, the fourth 260,000-ton/year acrylonitrile unit of Shenghong Sierbon Petrochemical was put into operation, producing high-grade acrylonitrile. So far, Shenghong's acrylonitrile production capacity has increased to 1.04 million tons/year, becoming the world's largest acrylonitrile production base.

Acrylonitrile is an important raw material for the three major synthetic materials (plastics, synthetic rubber, and synthetic fibers) and is widely used in ABS resin, carbon fiber and other production fields. In the field of carbon fiber, the "King of New Materials", Shenghong, as the largest supplier of acrylonitrile, has guaranteed the supply of raw materials for more than half of my country's carbon fiber companies, including the leading domestic company Zhongfu Shenying.

       "With supply and demand matching and integrated development, we have maintained good cooperation with leading companies in various application fields of acrylonitrile." Yang Jun, general manager of Sierbon Petrochemical, said that Shenghong's achievement of "one million tons of acrylonitrile" will be a powerful Ensuring the supply of raw materials for national strategic industries has become an important "stabilizing stone" for solidifying, integrating and strengthening chains in carbon fiber and other industries.

Connected to propylene raw materials and downstream to industries such as ABS resin, for acrylonitrile companies in the middle reaches, the ability to master the level of propylene raw materials and balance the price fluctuations of bulk commodities such as oil has become one of the decisive factors for development.

"The simultaneous development of three sources of propylene raw materials allows us to flexibly adjust the production capacity of the equipment according to market conditions, achieve complementary advantages, reduce costs and increase efficiency." Bai Wei, President of Shenghong Petrochemical Industry Group, pointed out that Shenghong Petrochemical has built a core raw material platform + new energy , new materials and other diversified industrial chains, it has created a core raw material platform that simultaneously develops "oil, coal, and gas" and achieved the optimal combination of propylene raw material sources.

In Youtou, in December 2022, Shenghong Petrochemical's 16 million tons/year refining and chemical integration project was fully put into operation. As a rich "chemical raw material library", it produces ethylene, propylene, etc.

In Meotou, Sierbon Petrochemical has the world's largest monomer-scale alcohol-based polygeneration unit with an annual capacity of 2.4 million tons. It uses methanol as raw material and produces ethylene and propylene through the MTO (methanol to olefins) process.

In the gas head, in April 2022, the 700,000-ton/year PDH (propane dehydrogenation) unit of Shenghong Sierpan Petrochemical was successfully started and produced high-quality propylene products. Combined with the MTO unit, Sierbon's overall propylene production capacity reaches 1.2 million tons/year, which can fully meet the raw material needs of four sets of 260,000 tons/year acrylonitrile units.

Also located in Lianyungang Shenghong Petrochemical Industrial Park, the efficient coordination and matching of raw materials and processes have enabled Shenghong to form significant scale and cost advantages in the acrylonitrile field.
